PCT, Patient Care Technician Apprentice Program at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System

Summary:

*Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Licensed Nurse, this apprentice/student position is an in-training role, culminating into the role of Patient Care Technician. This role is intended to be completed within an eight-week module and upon successful completion transitions into Patient Care Tech at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd. *

Responsibilities:

• Develop skills in collecting, analyzing, and integrating patient information to identify and meet patient- specific needs.
• Develop skills in determining final testing parameters and procedures in conjunction with lab policy and the ordering provider’s request.
• Provide age-specific patient education
• Develop skills for performing various testing procedures.
• Learn to implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety, and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure and oxygen administration, etc.)
• Develop skills in data analysis.
• Achieve specific educational benchmarks as determined by management.
• Performs duties in accordance with CHRISTUS values, policies, and procedures
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• 0-1 year customer service; healthcare related preferred, but not required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS preferred
