In partnership with AmeriCorps Vista, CHRISTUS Health will serve as a host site and hire Community Health Coordinators across our ministries.
As an AmeriCorps Vista member, you will help support the growth and capacity of CHRISTUS Health's community health and social impact efforts resulting in greater alignment to community needs, improvement of community health outcomes, and increased health equity. Furthermore, you will mobilize key individuals and organizations to create coalitions committed to improving community health, develop interventions that address community needs among under-resourced communities, and monitor/evaluate community programs. Benefits to serving as an AmeriCorps Vista member
Living Allowance
You receive a modest bi-weekly living allowance to cover basic expenses.
HealthCare Experience
This partnership with CHRISTUS Health provides a stepping stone into healthcare and public health.
Professional Development Training
You have the opportunity to attend in-person and virtual training to learn how to be a community development change agent.
Non-Competitive Eligibility
AmeriCorps is the only AmeriCorps program that allows members to earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving members an edge in the federal hiring process.
End of Service Award
Members can choose between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,895) to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend.
Public Health AmeriCorps
In partnership with Public Health AmeriCorps, CHRISTUS Health will serve as a host site and hire 30 Community Health Workers across our ministries.
As a Public Health AmeriCorps, you will address social determinants of health by providing outreach, assisting with navigation of services, providing education, and offering referrals to patients to improve health outcomes across the service areas of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances, Good Shepherd, St. Michael, Santa Rosa, Spohn, Southeast Texas, Ochsner St. Patrick, St. Frances Cabrini, Shreveport-Bossier, St. Vincent and System Office. Public Health AmeriCorps will have the opportunity to receive Community Health Worker (CHW) training and state certification. Join our team today!

Student Loan Deferment/ Forbearance
Individuals in approved AmeriCorps positions are eligible for forbearance for most federally-guaranteed student loans. In addition, interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps.
