Summary:

The HIM Technician - Identity Specialist position shall be responsible for combining duplicate medical record numbers and managing patient overlays within the enterprise master patient index. They will be responsible for prioritizing and managing duplicate/identity work queues. This position will maintain accuracy and integrity of the Master Patient Index. This position will coordinate with internal and external cross-functional teams to address any patient identity concerns within the systems EMPI to maintain patient safety.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the integrity of the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) by:
• Prioritize and manage duplicate medical records and overlays through system based workques
• Assist and manage chart corrections
• Perform account merges and unmerges
• Identifies all errors to include but not limited to; spelling, date of birth, sex and social security number, Jr/Sr, etc.
• Work collaboratively with hospital staff and healthcare affiliates to ensure resolution to patient identity errors
• Identify and report opportunities for education based on findings for created duplicates or overlays
• Performs any additional duties assigned as needed
