Summary:
Responsible for compliance in environmental health and safety policies. Provides advice on safety, protection, and performs audits to ensure that organization and government standards on environmental health and safety are met. Frequently reports to a top executive within the Environmental Health and Safety department.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for ongoing development of environmental and safety guidelines
• Reviews and track data provided within the Environment of Care program to make ongoing improvements
• Participates in performance improvement activities
• Coordinates a multidisciplinary team to conduct ongoing safety tours of clinical and nonclinical areas
• Assists in the enforcement of interim life safety plans and infection control risk assessments
• Responsible for ongoing compliance with Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards and CMS Conditions of Participation
• Organizes and directs an Environment of Care and Safety program to assure continued accreditation by the Joint Commission and other regulatory organization
• Ensures policies and procedures are compliant with accrediting organization requirements, including but not limited to Life Safety, Emergency Management and Environment of Care plans
• Participates in onsite surveys by TJC, CMS, or other agencies as needed
• Participates in the annual review and completion of the IntraCycle Monitoring (ICM)
• Oversees all on-site inspections, assisting inspectors and surveyors in the performance of their duties; provides report as required in follow-up to surveys, inspections and audits
Requirements:
· Required - Bachelor’s degree with a relevant degree such as Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or Emergency Management
· Preferred – Master’s Degree
· 8+ years of relevant experience in health care preferably within a large healthcare organization.
· Certified Healthcare Safety Professional preferred
· Certified Emergency Manager preferred
· Certified Healthcare Facility Manager preferred
