Summary:

This position requires the skills and knowledge of many areas within the clinic including:

• Patient Registrar who performs all functions necessary to maintain the efficient workflow of all front office areas including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, medical records, and cashiering
• Medical Assistant who is able to assist in the examination, treatment and care of the patient
• Referral Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating all patient referrals, processes all requests for referral authorizations and researches problem referral claims or requests for payment.

Must be able to work cooperatively as a team and demonstrate behaviors of trust and respect toward others including clinical staff, physicians, hospital Associates, visitors, and management.

Responsibilities:

• As a Patient Registrar - Greet all patients as they arrive in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner; Demonstrate and maintain a working knowledge of customer service principles and departmental expectations regarding customer service. Show concern for patient problems and ensure comfort of the patient while waiting to be registered or seen by the provider. Document in the computer system all necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information. Compile or retrieve scheduled reports from computer system, Collect co-pays, or co-insurance. Advise patients/guarantor as to their liability and coordinate with the business office to obtain full payment or payment arrangements in keeping with the clinic policy.
• As the Medical Assistant – Assist physicians by preparing patients for an examination/treatment/procedure, etc.
• As the Referral Coordinator- Expedites the flow of authorization requests through the Managed Care System. Prepares requests for authorization of services by ensuring form completion, eligibility, verification, benefits, etc. Accurately enter referral information into the computer system with a thorough understanding of the correct system codes (type, status, procedure, etc). Notifies patients and providers of authorization decisions and maintains accurate tracking of services. Assist in referral research for billing and collections process.
• Demonstrates competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of members served by the department.
• Appropriately adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age specific and other developmental needs of each member served.
• Demonstrates adherence to the CORE Values of CHRISTUS.
• Performs other duties as assigned/required.

Requirements:

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• CPR certification required
• Certification as a Medical Assistant highly preferred
