Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision and according to established procedures, operates, maintains and keeps records of machinery and equipment, to assure constant availability of heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic hot and cold water, medical gases, air, vacuum, electricity and steam for all areas of the hospital, to include maintenance of the facilities and cleaning of all equipment and equipment rooms.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. Vocational/technical schooling preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: None for level 0. Level one, two, and three require a New Mexico Boiler Operator's certification. A Valid New Mexico Driver's license and proof of auto insurance required at all levels.
Career Ladder Progression: Trainees will be enter at the Basic level "0" with no Boiler Operator certification at the time of hire. In order to progress or behired at Level I, a New Mexico Boiler Operator 2 certification must be attained and maintained. An additional relevant certification must be attained and maintained in order to progress to Level II, an additional relevant certification must be attained and maintained (2 certifications in addition to basic requirements) for level three of the career ladder. If certification at any level is not renewed and maintained at time of expiration, associate will be moved back to the appropriate level relevant to current certification.
SKILLS:
- Basic electrical skills required
- HVAC, boiler, plumbing and mechanical skills preferred
- Computer keyboarding skill preferred.
- Boiler Operator Certification preferred but not required.
- Basic computer and software skills preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Mechanical aptitude required. Trade or Hospital experience preferred.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
-Responsible to: Director of Facilities
ENVIRONMENT:
- Bloodborne pathogens - C
Hazards include water treatment chemicals, cleaning drains, biocides, high-pressure steam, high voltage electrical equipment and biological hazards while working in other areas of the hospital.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy physical effort. Must be capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs. during installation of pumps, motors, etc. Must be able to climb and work from ladders up to twenty four feet in height. Because of constant monitoring of equipment, eyesight and hearing must be good.
