Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Trauma Data & Injury Prevention Coordinator assumes primary responsibility, in conjunction with the Director of Trauma & Medical Education, for the data entry of all information that is related to trauma process improvement and prevention initiatives. The data collected will be used primarily for the goal of improving trauma care, and in addition, this data is used for billing purposes, for reporting in a timely manner to the State of New Mexico Systems Trauma Registry, and to the National Trauma Database. In addition, data will be collected for research, epidemiology, process improvement purposes, and such measurement processes to ensure the accuracy of the ICD-9 Diagnosis, Procedure, and Injury E-Codes, AIS and ISS coding process.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Associates degree in health or business.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Basic Life Support (BLS) issued through American Heart Association is required. In addition, the completion of ICD-9 and E-coding, AIS and ISS scoring courses, are preferred. Ongoing annual education is required, in the areas of trauma software updates and relevant data abstraction, and trauma registry data entry topics. Has a sound knowledge of medical terminology and foundational-level anatomy & physiology.

SKILLS: Demonstrated proficient computer literacy, strong organizational and teamwork abilities are required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year working in a clinical setting along with experience with data entry, prevention activity development, and outreach to community stakeholders.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Director of Trauma & Medical Education.

Normal light, heat, air, and space in a work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing, and computer work. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics. Hearing and visual acuity are within normal or correctable limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
