Surgical Technologist Certified Job in Lake Charles
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the OR Manager/Charge Nurse, the Surgical Technologist is responsible to the Director of Surgical Services for providing individualized patient care during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods by providing direct assistance to surgeons, nurses, anesthetist, and anesthesiologist. Duties include scrubbing for surgical procedures and other tasks. All tasks are performed in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Focus/Purpose:
Surgical Technologists are an integral part of the team Of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. In order that surgery may proceed smoothly, surgical technologists anticipate the needs of surgeons, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner. They share with the circulator the responsibility of accounting for sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after surgery.
Requirements:
High School Graduate preferred vs. GED recipient Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) vs. Documentation of graduation from a Surgical Technology school
1 year surgical technology experience preferred
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
Educational Requirements:
Must hold current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST), as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA, CSA, SA-C, CSA or R FA)or a license as a Mid-Level Provider or Medical Provider (PA-C. ARNP, MD or DO), if trained hv Clinical Educator.
Responsibilities:
- Set up sterile field and maintain it
- Labels all medications and solutions on the sterile field
- Counts of all sharps and sponges with the circulator
- During the Operative procedure
Cleaning Operating room (room turnover includes the following)
Take out the trash o Mop thenoors
Wipe down OR bed, tables, lights, mayo stands, anesthesia wires etc.
- Prepare Operating room for the next case
- Rearrange room orientation (if necessary)
- Place new garbage bags
- Make the bed
- Be sure all equipment needed is in the room o Obtain case cart
- Select appropriate trays for the procedure
- Select any items needed from core/sterile processing (suture, extra gowns, and towels)
Open Operating room using sterile technique
- Open all instruments, trays and Other items o Scrub in and take/check trays & set-up for case
- Drape out robot, camera, etc.
- May hold retractors or instruments
- Sponge Or suction the operative site
- Cut suture materials as directed by the surgeon
- Labels specimens per the surgeon's directive
- Connect drains and tubing
- Responsible for preparing sterile dressings following the procedure and may assist in the application Of
- Drape out back table(s) and mayo stand(s)
Help with transferring patient from OR table to stretcher
Prepare room for the next case
