Job Description

Summary:

The RN, Lactation Consultant provides knowledge in the practice of lactation management. Diagnoses lactation problems, plans and implements intervention and evaluation outcomes. Conducts prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluates educational outcomes. Provides consultation and outpatient care for families experiencing difficulty breastfeeding. Serves as a consultant for healthcare providers concerning lactation as it relates to patient’s health problems. 

Located just minutes from the shores of Padre Island, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-South provides surgical and medical services for our patients in south Corpus Christi. Perfectly positioned to serve the rapidly-growing south side of Corpus Christi, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - South is licensed for 158 beds. South offers a full range of medical and surgical services including pediatrics, obstetrics, skilled nursing, emergency, intensive care as well as advanced diagnostic and imaging. The hospital is also home to a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which enables recovering mothers to remain close to their premature or special needs babies.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous RN experience in Women’s Services. Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant preferred.
  • Current Texas State RN license; CPR; NRP; IBCLC within 1 year of hire/transfer if previous Lactation Consulting experience and no experience within 2 ½ years based on IBCLC required worked hours.
