Job Description

Summary:

The RN, Lactation Consultant promotes and encourages breastfeeding best practices for all new mothers and the staff of Women’s Services. Provides consultation and inpatient care for families experiencing difficulty breastfeeding, while planning and implementing interventions and evaluating outcomes of breastfeeding mothers. Serves as a consultant for healthcare providers concerning lactation as it relates to patient’s health problems. Coordinates and instructs breastfeeding classes; including other prenatal classes and evaluates educational outcomes. 

Requirements:

A. Education/Skills

· Graduate of a school of nursing. BSN preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

B. Experience

· Previous RN experience in Women’s Services. Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant preferred.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

· Current Louisiana State RN license; CPR required and NRP preferred; and IBCLC preferred.
