Pharmacists are well positioned to assist the healthcare system in improving quality of care, and they are already established as experts in medication management processes.

This individual has responsibility over quality and patient safety related activities within the organization as related to pharmacy services. Directs the efforts of performance improvement initiatives to ensure overall compliance with all regulatory standards including national, state, CMS, and other agencies. He/She works with clinicians and administrators to improve overall patient safety and systems-level outcomes. Responsible for the facilities quality, patient safety and risk management programs as related to pharmacy services with an emphasis on patient safety, and harm reduction. Supports, promotes and encourages a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Key areas of quality will include anticoagulation stewardship, medication safety, medication error tracking, opioid stewardship, medication reconciliation and outpatient antimicrobial stewardship.

EDUCATION: BS Pharm, PharmD, Pharmacotherapy Board Certification or must obtain within 3 years

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Licensure by New Mexico Board of Pharmacy is required. Continuous education to maintain licensure and certification(s), if any, is required.


  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication and problem identification and resolution
  • Participate in a program of self-development that will allow the pharmacist to develop a high level of clinical or technical expertise specific to the particular area of practice
  • Word processing skills are preferred
  • Must have the ability to work with medical staff, nursing staff and other healthcare employees

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of pharmacy clinical experience or Residency.


-Responsible to: Reports to the Medical Director of Quality and the Executive Director of Quality in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy


- Blood borne pathogen B (Occasional exposure in daily duties. Little expected risk, but may be exposed unexpectedly to potentially infectious materials. Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid.) Close quarters in a busy environment. Possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases. Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and allergenic drug products. Extended exposure to video display terminals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work at a rapid pace throughout entire shift, while under demanding workloads and stressful situations. Hearing sufficient to use telephones and vision sufficient to read physician orders, requisitions and reports. Hand to eye coordination sufficient for aseptic technique.
