Summary:

This position supports our healthcare ministries in South and Southeast Texas. There is an option to be based out of Beaumont, Corpus Christi or San Antonio. As a member of the CHRISTUS Health External Communication Team, the PR Specialist II works collaboratively across various ministries and interfaces with many different audiences including CHRISTUS Health Associates, volunteers, physicians, patients, board members, community and political leaders, state and local media, representatives and the public.

The Specialist will be privy to and is responsible for confidential information, including strategic plans, and risk management situations, in addition to patient information, and will be required to hold certain information in a confidential manner. 

  • Serves as primary media relations and public relations consultant for CHRISTUS Spohn, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa ministries including ambulatory practices.
  • Guides, coordinates, and directs the deployment of media relations activities including media conferences, live interviews, holding statements, video news releases and community events.
  • Writes and edits wide variety of external communications with excellence, creativity, and accuracy.
  • Has a knack for storytelling and networking able to write, edit and deploy stories across a wide range of mediums including comfortable with podcasting and occasional on-camera work.
  • Works with leadership teams, marketing directors and director of external communication to implement external communication plans.
  • Measures monthly publicity tracking.
  • Ability to prepare and present public relations reporting to key internal audiences.
  • Communicate effectively as a representative of the organization in person with media.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Social Media Marketing, Business or related field required
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in media/public relations role required
  • 5+ years in a health care setting is strongly preferred 
  • Experience with social media and news monitoring platforms like Sprout Social and Meltwater as well as photography editing (via Adobe Suite) and video editing preferred 
  • Solid understanding of news organizations and gathering sources
  • Experience in copy writing and editing
