MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical Terminology course, personal computer experience, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word software preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Not applicable.

SKILLS:

• Have thorough working knowledge of medical terminology
• Have thorough working knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft products
• Have positive and effective communication skills.

EXPERIENCE: Medical transcription and hospital computer system experience preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

- Responsible to: Laboratory Director

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen -B (Occasional exposure in daily duties. Little expected risk, but may be exposed unexpectedly to potentially infectious materials. Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid.)

Works in a well lighted and ventilated, climate controlled area. May occasionally be exposed to biohazards, unpleasant sights, and odors. Subject to mental stress associated with the need to send-out specimens and process pathology reports in a timely (same-day turnaround), accurate manner while coping with the constant interruptions and demands of a busy pathologist office. Mental stress from knowledge that all results reporting is vital to patient care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to work more than a standard shift as dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure. Sitting for long periods of time in front of computer using sound ergonomic principles, standing, stooping and ambulation between all hospital departments and facilities. Requires good vision, hearing, depth perception and manual dexterity and some lifting of boxes. Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 pounds). Repetitive motion/transcription.
