Summary:
The Network Administrator is responsible for participating in voice and data, network installation repair and upgrade. This includes all telecommunications systems including the teleconferencing, video and satellite communications. The Network Administrator also plans, evaluates, installs, configures, upgrades, and performs maintenance procedures on telecommunications hardware, cabling, operating systems, and infrastructure. Remaining current on developments in telecommunications and networking technology is a key element of this position. The Network Administrator has technical knowledge and experience in routers, bridges, IP addressing, switches, hubs, other network devices, protocols, sniffers and all existing network architectures (Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, ATM, etc.). In addition, strong analytical and problem solving skills are critical to troubleshooting networking issues and analysis of system and network performance. Responsibility for the resolution of problems and the implementation of new functionality for the logical network topology is an important part of this position. The Network Administrator is responsible for delivering high quality cost-effective solutions to all levels of users. This includes support for both the technology and processes. The Network Administrator is also responsible for supporting the business goals and objectives for the Department, the Information Services Organization, and the organization as a whole.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Math, preferred, or equivalent experience (2 years)
- Network management formal training preferred
- Working knowledge of mainframe, midrange, IP addressing, network protocols, UNIX, network design, telecommunications strategy, environments, operating systems, and equipment
