POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for installing, operating and maintaining air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and boiler systems, ventilation and humidifying systems and associated controls, including plumbing, pneumatic systems, ventilations systems, mixing boxes, variable air volume boxes and Direct Digital Controls. Installation and maintenance must be made in accordance with approved blueprints or schematic drawings, structural layouts and designs of components.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma required. Vocational/Technical School preferred, with coursework in refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: HVAC certification required; Valid New Mexico Class D driver's license required.

Career Ladder Progression: New hires will be hired at Level I if only basic certification and licensure is held at the time of hire. In order to progress or be hired at Level II, 1 additional relevant certification must be attained and maintained. In order to progress to Level III, an additional relevant certification must be attained and maintained (2 certifications in addition to basic requirements) to next level of career ladder. If certification at any level is not renewed and maintained at time of expiration, associate will be moved back to the appropriate level relevant to current certification.

SKILLS: Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical/refrigeration schematics, sketches, diagrams and instruction manuals. Proven ability to work with compressors, condenser units, metalworking tools, welding equipment, gauges and computer-controlled Energy Management Systems, plumbing, and electrical and refrigeration diagnostics. Must have a working knowledge of plumbing and steam fitting, circulating and condensate pumps and vacuums.

EXPERIENCE: Five years commercial refrigeration/air conditioning experience required, five years experience as Journeyman HVAC mechanic preferred. Three years commercial refrigeration/air conditioning experience accepted, if accompanied by Associate's degree from Vocational/Technical School with concentration in HVAC.

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen: Hazards include electrical shock, gas/oil vapors, infectious waste, dust, lint and other airborne particles, drains, metals, biological wastes, both high and low temperatures, working at a height on a ladder and working in restricted access areas. Please note that safety equipment will be furnished by St. Vincent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires standing and walking throughout the day. Must be able to routinely lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of heavy physical effort: lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs. upon occasion. Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl and kneel in order to perform duties. Manual dexterity is needed for skillful and accurate hand and arm movements when using power tools. Finger dexterity is needed when using small tools and delicate supplies. Must be able to work on a ladder up to ten feet in height. Eyesight and hearing must be good, and protective eyewear and earplugs must be worn in appropriate circumstances.
