POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist has the responsibility and accountability for providing advanced nurse practice while administering anesthesia to patients. This position is responsible for preparing and administering anesthesia agents to surgical, procedural, and obstetric patients. Responsibility and accountability of anesthesia services lies with the Service Chief for Anesthesiology and Anesthesia Section.
The CRNA will perform the following duties: Assess patients peri-operatively, perform
patient history and physical, and review patient records to determine health status, review results of diagnostic tests, treatments and orders as appropriate, make post-op rounds, provide patient and family education. Routine procedures performed include: Draw venous/arterial blood, administer general, regional and local anesthesia, administer injections, place NG tubes, administer local infiltrative anesthesia, placement of central venous lines and Swan Ganz lines. Providing regional anesthesia includes: topical, infiltration, spinal, epidural, intravenous, upper and lower body blocks and other peripheral blocks. Intravenous catheter placement and administration of: fluids, blood and/or blood products, muscle relaxants, vasoactive and cardiac drugs. Other responsibilities include mechanical ventilation, resuscitation techniques, cardiopulmonary bypass technique, auto transfusion, hypotensive and hypertensive care and hypothermia.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and program of Nurse Anesthesia.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current certification as an active practicing CRNA by the AANA, and current licensure as a RN/CRNA by the State of New Mexico and ACLS Certifications issued by the American Heart Association required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
SKILLS: Strong clinical and leadership skills and previous management experience including experience in facilitating interdisciplinary team collaboration. Evidence of such experience should include:

EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience as an active practicing CRNA in surgery and/or anesthesia.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
-Responsible to: Director Surgical Services, Surgical Services Clinical Report to Anesthesia Dept.
-Bloodborne pathogen: C Must be current with hepatitis vaccine, AIDS education and comply with policies on bloodborne pathogens. Must be able to handle patients with communicable diseases.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing and walking. Must be physically fit and able to endure 24 hour shifts. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients or equipment. Hearing and visual acuity within normal or correctable limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
