Summary:
Coordinates the technical functions and activities in one or more divisions or sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Provides laboratory services to meet the needs of patients, ensuring services are performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Consults with medical staff and other healthcare providers on matters relating to laboratory services.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Manages the Performance Improvement/QA functions of the Laboratory and is responsible for the enhancement of all aspects of Laboratory Services through ongoing monitoring and application of quality improvement principles, concepts and technologies
- Accountable and responsible for the overall design, leadership, coordination, and integration of quality/performance measurement, improvement utilization, initiatives, and outcomes
- Plans, participates and implements PI/QA activities and the provision of all associated educational activities
- Responsible for department compliance with accreditation agencies' standards and regulations (CAP, AABB, FDA, JCAHO) and ensuring laboratory accreditation
- Oversees and maintains department policies and procedures to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
- Responsible for establishment and ongoing monitoring of PI indicators and thresholds, outcomes monitoring, data analyses
- Investigates all risk management, patient/customer and physician satisfaction issues and outcome resolution; works in collaboration with Risk Management, Quality Management and/or other involved or associated party to effect positive resolution and initiates necessary action at the department level
- Participates in accredited performance improvement programs for both clinical and pathology laboratory services, all such data collection, data input and result analysis of benchmark, trend, longitudinal and/or focus studies, including laboratory management operational expenses performance improvement programs
- Performs all automated and manual testing on patients and quality control materials in the Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry Section & Urinalysis, Microbiology/Serology, and Blood Bank Section, as needed
- Ensures all equipment is maintained as scheduled
