Clinical Lab Intern, Laboratory - FT Job in Beaumont
The Clinical laboratory Scientist Intern trains with a designated CLS in all departments of the Clinical Laboratory and completes all required objectives and specific laboratory procedures required to seek MLS/MT certification in hematology, chemistry, blood bank microbiology and serology. This position will offer the intern the opportunity to work on various education and process improvement projects as well as conduct phlebotomy, specimen processing and limited testing. The intern will assist the lab in the efficient delivery of lab results to care givers for the benefit of the patient under the direct supervision of certified laboratory technician or technologist. The CLS intern will rotate through each laboratory section learning and working under the direction of a CLS. The Intern will be responsible to learn the duties in each lab section and will be able to release results and gradually work independently as training is completed (checked off by supervisor) in each section: hematology, chemistry, immunology, chemistry and blood bank. At the completion of the year internship, the intern should be considered a trained CLS and should take and successfully pass the MT/MLS certification exam to be certified in all 5 clinical lab areas. The CLS Intern is responsible for assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing various clinical laboratory procedures. Performs routine and special tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results. Performs maintenance procedures on equipment; performs and interprets quality control/assurance procedures to ensure and evaluate the validity of patient results. Job duties includes preanalytical, analytical and post-analytical such as specimen collection, specimen processing, specimen analysis and reporting lab results.
A. Education/Skills 1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or natural sciences 2. Education that has been evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency and deemed equivalent to a US Bachelor’s degree or applied Science degree in a chemical, physical, or biological.
B. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications Not required.
C. Experience Preferred: One year of experience in a clinical, environmental, or industrial laboratory.
