Summary:

The Communications Operator serves as the first point of contact for hospital visitors, staff, and callers. This position is responsible for answering and routing incoming telephone calls, greeting and directing visitors, and could assist in observing security and safety systems such as CCTV. The Communications Operator provides exceptional customer service while maintaining the safety, privacy, and security of the facility. Additional duties include assisting staff, patients, and visitors with identification badges and access control issues, maintaining communication logs, and supporting general clerical and administrative functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets, directs, and assists all incoming visitors and phone calls with professionalism, courtesy, and compassion.
  • Provides accurate information regarding hospital departments, services, and personnel.
  • Ensures visitors comply with hospital entry and identification procedures.
  • Answers all incoming calls promptly and courteously, routing them to the appropriate department or personnel.
  • Pages or relays emergency and routine messages to staff using the hospital’s communication systems.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date call logs and directories.
  • Assists in the observation of hospital CCTV systems and promptly reports any suspicious activity, security concerns, or emergencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Works in collaboration with the Security Department to maintain a secure and safe environment for all occupants.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks such as filing, typing, and data entry as needed.
  • Supports departmental communications during drills, emergencies, or critical incidents.
  • Models behavior consistent with CHRISTUS' Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Adheres to hospital policies, confidentiality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Collaborates effectively with hospital departments to support smooth operations and positive patient experiences.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate multi-line phone systems, CCTV systems, and basic office equipment.
  • Professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle stressful or emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, email, and access management systems).
