AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. Through our partnerships with AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps State & National, CHRISTUS Health serves as a host site for Members who support mission-driven work across our Ministries and System Office.
AmeriCorps members contribute to initiatives that address poverty related challenges and strengthen long term community impact. Depending on the program, members may focus on building organizational capacity, strengthening partnerships and systems, or supporting direct service and program implementation at the ministry level.

AmeriCorps VISTA members serve across CHRISTUS Health to support initiatives that address poverty related challenges and strengthen long term community impact. Depending on the role and term of service, VISTA members may focus on capacity building, systems development, or time limited direct service activities aligned with ministry and system priorities. Year Long VISTAs serve full time for 12 months across CHRISTUS Health ministries and the System Office, focusing on capacity building and systems development. Members support sustainable, organization level initiatives by strengthening internal processes, partnerships, planning efforts, and data and documentation systems that advance long term community impact.
Summer VISTAs serve in short term placements supporting priority initiatives across CHRISTUS Health ministries and the System Office. These roles focus on time limited, site based projects and provide hands on exposure to service, outreach, coordination, and operational support within a large nonprofit health system.
The Community Impact VISTA Leader provides leadership, coordination, and mentorship to AmeriCorps VISTA Members serving across CHRISTUS Health. This role supports program implementation, collaboration, reporting, and continuous improvement and is designed for experienced AmeriCorps alumni seeking advanced leadership experience in capacity building and program coordination.
You receive a modest bi-weekly living allowance to cover basic expenses.

You have the opportunity to attend in-person and virtual training to learn how to be a community development change agent.
AmeriCorps is the only AmeriCorps program that allows members to earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving members an edge in the federal hiring process.
Members can choose between a Segal Education Award to pay for a range of education expenses or a cash stipend.
In partnership with AmeriCorps, CHRISTUS Health will serve as a host site and enroll 35 AmeriCorps members to serve as Community Connectors.
As a Community Connector, you will address social determinants of health by providing outreach, assisting with navigation of services, providing education, and offering referrals to patients to improve health outcomes across the service areas of CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances, Good Shepherd, St. Michael, Santa Rosa, Spohn, Southeast Texas, Ochsner St. Patrick, St. Frances Cabrini, Shreveport-Bossier, St. Vincent, Southern New Mexico, and System Office. Community Connectors will have the opportunity to receive Community Health Worker (CHW) training and state certification. Join our team today!

You have the opportunity to receive Community Health Worker training from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and obtain a state certification. Additionally, you can attend in-person and virtual trainings in a variety of topics and learn from experts.
Individuals in approved AmeriCorps positions are eligible for forbearance for most federally-guaranteed student loans. In addition, interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps.
Members can choose between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $7,395) to pay for a range of education expenses.
