The Risk Finance Coordinator administers the daily operations related to the procurement and cancellation of professional liability insurance for CHRISTUS Health's employed physicians and employed physician programs, and responds to requests for certificates of insurance. The position assists the Risk Finance Director with collection, organization and transmittal of information from and to health care centers and facilities, corporate office and support centers, state agencies, insurance brokers and insurers concerning all lines of commercial property and casualty coverage, and CHRISTUS Health's self-insurance programs. Also assists in the annual insurance renewal process, in maintaining property and fleet databases, underground storage tank renewal processes, and in collecting and reviewing the accuracy of insurance premium and other risk finance provider invoices and preparing invoices for payment. The position requires a dependable and flexible person who can communicate and work with physicians, physician office managers, health care facility and other organizational representatives, insurance company underwriters, and brokers. The Risk Finance Coordinator also handles administrative functions related to the Texas Occupational Injury Assistance Program (TOIAP) Appeals Committee and System wide safety and security and emergency preparedness committees and groups, at the direction of the System Vice President, Risk Finance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contacts insurers, physician practice managers, department leaders and risk management personnel to obtain appropriate professional liability coverage for new hires, close out coverage, procure extended reporting coverage, and annually renew coverage for certain employed physician programs.
  • Develops and maintains employed physician program and individual insurance policies and correspondence for all years; reviews broker and insurer billings, policies & endorsements for accuracy; and coordinates development and dissemination of annual insurance program coverage information to health care center representatives.
  • Serves as an information source to risk finance customers for addressing employed physician coverage issues, and interacts regularly with insurance brokers, insurance underwriters and state agency representatives on behalf of CHRISTUS Health.
  • Assists in collecting underwriting data for all lines of commercial property, casualty and excess insurance coverage; reviews and compiles data and prepares annual insurance submission for CHRISTUS Health to insurance brokers.
  • Assists in procurement and annual renewal of Louisiana and New Mexico Patient Compensation fund coverage for health care entities and selected physicians and paraprofessionals.
  • Administers certificate of insurance program, including review of lease and contract insurance provisions to ensure that appropriate insurance coverages are reflected in certificates of insurance. Serves as first point of contact to facility representatives for requests for certificates of insurance and provides appropriate responses.
  • Provides administrative support to the Texas Occupational Injury Assistance Program Appeals Committee (TOIAP) as well as other occupational health & safety; emergency preparedness and response committees and safety and security committee meetings, as assigned by System Vice President, Risk Finance.
  • Assists Risk Finance Director with Letters of Credit and surety bonds program, including annual renewal processes.
  • Assists System Vice President, Risk Finance and Risk Finance Director with risk finance and loss prevention, and some administrative activities as assigned.
  • High school diploma required and some formal risk management insurance education, post-high school education preferred
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written verbal communication skills
  • Five years' experience working in an insurance and/or risk management environment
