This position will be responsible for identifying, cultivating relationships with donor prospects for substantial and large donations for the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI) in San Antonio, Texas. Under the direct supervision of the Generalate Leadership Operations, the Major Gifts Officer advocates for the Sisters, consults and advises external organizations and board members, manages relationships with current and prospective donors and stewards these relationships for the Sisters of Charity of Incarnate Word (CCVI).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for soliciting gifts of $10,000 to $100,000.
  • Manage relationships with prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these very important relationships.
  • Cultivate and present proposals to individual and corporate prospects.
  • Write proposals, follow-up letters, and introductory letters, and prepare background information and materials for cultivation and solicitation activities as needed.
  • Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
  • Plan and implement major donor-related cultivation events and activities
  • Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors
    • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers
    • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
    • Make solicitations when appropriate
    • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic     disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
  • Work collaboratively with the CCVI staff including annual giving staff, prospect researcher, and planned giving officer to develop best strategies for stewarding prospects. Offer prospect strategy counsel to the vice president and chief development officer, executive director-campaign, and development staff who are managing other prospects. Be a resource for development staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections to strategizing about donor prospects and plans.
  • Focus on securing support for a set of foundation priorities that include program funding, equipment purchases, unrestricted support, facility renovations, new facilities, and campus improvements
  • Leads the strategy, goal setting, planning, logistics and budget process for assigned projects and areas of responsibility
  • Builds relationships with prospective major gift donors by calling/meeting/cultivating towards a significant gift
  • When appropriate, provides the nominating committee names/introductions for prospective board members and introductions to CSR leaders
  • Collaborates with the development staff in the planning and execution of the total development program
  • Establish good working relationship and collaborations with all constituencies of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, board members, business/community leaders and donors
  • Demonstrates competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the needs of the members of the department as well as those members served by the department
  • Takes personal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities
  • Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (liberal arts or business major preferred)
  • Master's Preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years in business development, marketing and / or public relations
  • Team player with positive attitude and pro-active work ethic are a must
  • Public speaking ability is essential.
  • Proficient writer with excellent knowledge of grammar, promotional and communications principles and techniques.
  • Able to handle urgent requests from multiple publics in a professional manner while exercising common sense and judgment.
  • Possess outstanding organizational skills and the capacity to work under pressure.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of management principles and a willingness to expand management knowledge and skills.
  • Computer literate and facile to include multiple Microsoft Office.
  • Spanish speaking is highly desirable.
  • Accuracy and detail oriented are essential.
  • Must be a motivator and positive leader. Must be a team player; willing to follow as well as lead.
  • Must be able to exercise initiative, imagination, and judgment. Must have a good memory for detail.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
