Provides primary care services to neonates in collaboration with physicians following established standards and practices in accordance with APN practice with the Board of Nurse Examiners.
The NICU is a 33-bed, Level II newborn unit and is comprised of 18-bed Regular/Admission, eight-bed Intermediate Care, six-bed Intensive Care and one Intensive Care Isolation bed. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which accepts babies born as early as 24 weeks, is a 31-bed Level IIIa unit. The NICU has earned quality outcomes based on data through the Vermont Oxford database. A part of the NICU is a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit (NIMC), which provides a step down level of care as our babies grow and prepare to go home. The purpose of the units is to provide a family-centered approach to quality neonatal services, providing the opportunity to make the experience a total family affair and to provide quality, economical, safe care to the well and sick neonates through progressive technology combined with highly skilled, caring nursing services.
